CAMP Rehoboth explains significance of National Coming Out Day

Tuesday, October 11th is National Coming out Day. The purpose of the day is to honor all who have come out as members of or as allies for the LGBTQ community. The goal of National Coming Out Day is to continue to promote a safe world for LGBTQ individuals to be able to live truthfully and openly, and this hits home for CAMP Rehoboth.

Steve Elkins the Executive Director of CAMP Rehoboth, says this non-profit organization was started when he and his husband saw a bumper sticker that read ‘Keep Rehoboth a family town’. Since then,  they’ve both made it their mission to create a positive and accepting community for families of all orientations, which is why Elkins believes National Coming Out Day is important to honor.

“People that are in their 20’s or in their teens or are struggling with coming out it’ important to know that there is people here that support them. Whether you are gay or straight. And just say we love you for who you are,” says Elkins.

This weekend folks on Delmarva can continue supporting this non-profit organization during their second Block Party. This Sunday from 12 -4 PM, there will be food, entertainment, and vendors on the second block of Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth Beach.
