Discover Delmarva: Campbell’s Lane Farm
PRESTON, Md. — Move over puppy yoga and relaxing beach days — there’s a new way to unwind on the Eastern Shore, and the stars of this show have long ears, furry coats, gentle personalities, and plenty of cuddles to share.
At Campbell’s Lane Farm in Preston, visitors are taking a break from the fast life with the farm’s lovable donkeys, who remind us that slowing down once in a while isn’t such a bad idea.
“People leave feeling better and more grounded. Their heart rate slows down, their heart opens, they smile they laugh more. Sometimes they cry because things release and the donkeys just stay present with them,” Owner of Campbell’s Lane Farm Anne Altvater said.
Altvater tells me that the second visitors get to cuddling these donkeys, their shoulders drop, their mind slows down and the stress melts away. “One of the things we hear all the time is ‘this is exactly what I didn’t know I needed.'”
And she was absolutely right; the donkeys are extremely friendly and ready for cuddles. And, they all have their own unique personalities.
“Some are sweeter, some have a little more spice. They’re all very kind and what they offer people often is a nervous system reset.”
You can plan your trip with a group of friends and family or join their community donkey cuddling sessions held twice a month.
We all need a reminder to slow down once in a while, and these donkeys are more than happy to lead the way. “Everywhere we turn, everything’s pressure, in a hurry, and trying to perform and be something. Even in our homes there’s still a lot of roles and responsibilities, and the donkeys just don’t ask for any of that.”
