Teen Arrested on Firearms Charges in Dover
DOVER, DEL. – The Dover Police Department has arrested a teenager on firearm charges during their Enhanced Visibility Patrol initiative on Tuesday evening.
Police have arrested a 17-year-old male on charges of carrying a concealed deadly weapon, two counts of possessing a handgun or ammunition by a person under 21, resisting arrest, and related gun crimes. He was committed to the Stevenson House on a $40,501 secured bond.
At 5:26 p.m. on Jun. 16, officers working in the Capital Green community attempted to contact a group of subjects in the middle of the roadway at River Road and New Castle Avenue. When officers approached, they say the 17-year-old fled on foot before he was apprehended in a nearby alley.
Following his arrest, officers located a loaded 9mm polymer handgun on his person. Police say the firearm also had an extended magazine capable of holding 40 rounds of ammunition, and was equipped with a “switch” which enables the firearm to fire like an automatic weapon.
