Arson fire under investigation in Long Neck

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office says it is investigating a fire that happened in the Long Neck area of Millsboro.

According to the release, the blaze caused severe damage to the several storage structures and vehicles.

Officials say that the fire investigation happened in the 31000 block of Eagle Lane, off of John J Williams Highway, and was reported on Tuesday around 6:47PM.

Fire fighters arrived around 6:50PM to find fire showing in several storage buildings and vehicles, and the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, assisted by Millsboro, Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, and Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company were able to put it out.

The fire was reported to have been controlled at 7:16PM, and units cleared the scene at 8:52PM. Damages are estimated by officials at around $25,000.

Officials note that the fire was determined to be criminal in nature and the cause was reported to be arson. The investigation is continuing at this time, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office at 302-856-5600.
