Woman arrested following fatal hit-and-run bicycle crash in Millville
MILLVILLE, Del. – Delaware State Police have arrested an Ocean City woman following a fatal hit-and-run bicycle crash in Millville.
46-year-old Kara Gilmore was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, D-U-I and related charges.
On Tuesday, Gilmore’s Subaru Forrester left the eastbound lane of Atlantic Avenue and entered the bike lane, hitting a bicyclist.
After hitting the bicyclist, Gilmore left the scene but was located a short time later.
Gilmore showed multiple signs of impairment when contacted by troopers and was arrested after a field sobriety test.
The bicyclist, identified as 52-year-old Duane Pershing of Ocean View, was flown to an area hospital where he died from his injuries on Wednesday.
Gilmore was taken to Troop 4 where she was initially charged and released on an unsecured bond.
An additional warrant was obtained for Gilmore Thursday and she was arrested in Maryland and will be extradited to Delaware where she will be charged with the felony offenses of vehicular homicide 2nd degree and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death.
