Two Wicomico Middle Students Arrested for Bringing Stolen Firearm to School

SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) launched a firearms investigation after two Wicomico Middle School students were allegedly in custody of a stolen firearm on school property.

Deputies say they initiated their investigation after receiving information from Wicomico County Public Schools (WCPS) indicating that a 15-year-old student had allegedly stolen a firearm from a Virginia residence over the weekend before bringing the gun to school on Monday, Jun. 1. School authorities alerted WCSO that the firearm had since been given to a different 14-year-old student.

As a result of the investigation, deputies located the 14-year-old student and recovered the stolen firearm at their residence. The juvenile was taken into custody and released to the custody of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services. The 14-year-old has been charged with several gun offenses, including having a dangerous weapon on school property and illegal possession of a firearm as a minor.

On Wednesday, Jun. 3, the 15-year-old juvenile was also taken into custody to be transferred to the custody of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services. He faces similar charges, including possessing a stolen firearm.

Wicomico Middle School Principal Jo Branham sent a message to families on Tuesday afternoon, confirming aforementioned details and saying that the school district was working closely with officials at the Sheriff’s Office during the investigation.

“Please be assured that the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. Students involved will receive severe discipline to the full extent of the Code of Conduct, in addition to any criminal consequences they may face,” Principal Branham said. “The students who are part of the investigation are not in school and will not return to the school. We will continue to work with the Sheriff’s Office and Safe Schools on this matter.”
