One Firefighter Injured in Destructive Ocean View House Fire

OCEAN VIEW, Del. – Multiple fire companies responded to an aggressive house fire on Saturday afternoon after neighbors reported the residence to be on fire.

At 2:55 p.m. on May 30, the Millville, Bethany Beach, Roxana, Dagsboro, and Frankford Volunteer Fire Companies responded to an unoccupied, two-story home on Lathbury Court. Crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from the rear of the home, extending to both floors. Firefighters began suppression efforts immediately, attacking and knocking down the exterior fire on the rear of the structure, while other crews prepared to enter from the front of the home.

The Millville Volunteer Fire Company (MVFC) reports that crews conducting the interior search and fire suppression were subjected to severe heat and fire conditions while working in poor visibility. Fire operations continued for about an hour before the blaze was brought under control, and crews remained on scene for several hours after.

Crews learned the homeowners were out of town. A neighbor tending to their dog was accounted for and safe, including the dog. One firefighter sustained injuries and received treatment at a local hospital and later released.
