Local Organizations Honor Fallen Service Members
Salisbury, Md. – Wor-Wic Community College and local branches of the Rotary Club are working together for the flags for our heroes event to ensure the public does not forget the true meaning of Memorial Day Weekend.
The Flags for Heroes display at Wor-Wic Community College features an array of American Flags lining a portion of U.S Route 50. Rotary club members say that this display stands as a prominent reminder of the military members who have given their lives This year’s display is the 11th year that Flags for Heroes has been shown on the eastern shore and the second year at Wor-Wic Community College, who say that they are proud to hold this event, as it strongly reflects on the eastern shore communities.
“Our way to honor to the men and women who have laid down their lives for our country. To let the community know the reason for the holiday besides the barbecues and cookouts.” says Jeff Merritt, Member of the Rotary Club of Salisbury.
“What the veterans do in our community is very, very important to honor them for what they do.” says William Ferguson of the Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club.
Dr. Casey, President of Wor-Wic Community College, speaks about the efforts made to honor service members and how it reflects the values that service members bring to the eastern shore saying “it says a lot about the values of the eastern shore to have our Flags for Heroes here.
