Lower Shore Enterprises to Host Disability Voting Workshop

(SALISBURY, Md) – One Salisbury based group is inviting those with disabilities to come and learn how they can protect their ability to vote.

Lower Shore Enterprises, in partnership with more than half a dozen other groups, like the Maryland Disability Forum will be hosting a voting rights workshop in Salisbury on Wednesday, May 20th for those with physical and intellectual disabilities.

Executive Director, Ivy McIntyre says there’s been plenty of these workshops to help those with disabilities in the state of Maryland, but this will be one of the first to take place on the Lower Eastern Shore.

She tells WMDT, “We have, a really good opportunity here at Lower Shore Enterprises for people with disabilities. This training is specifically geared towards people with disabilities. So we are encouraging anyone from the community to attend.”

The workshop is meant to help those with disabilities recognize their conditions are not barrier to being able to cast their ballot, as well as maintain what’s called “voter guardianship”

“But I do think it’s especially important for people with intellectual disabilities to have someone that can support them through the process,” says McIntyre.
