Discover Delmarva: Brittingham Farms
MILLSBORO, Del. — Lavender and lambs. Those are just two of the things visitors will find at Brittingham Farms in Millsboro — where the calming scent of lavender fills the air, and friendly sheep add to the charm of this one-of-a-kind farm experience. If you want to see what life on a grain farm is really like, a visit to Brittingham Farms is all you need.
“We have this new little farm store, the wedding venue, the lavender essential oil distillery, the sheep — so we’ve added quite a bit in the last five to seven years,” Owner Laura Brittingham said.
There’s absolutely no shortage of fun and things to see at this fourth-generation, family-owned farm. Visit their store and browse through their collection of products infused with lavender essential oil made right on the farm — or get a firsthand look at how that oil is made in their state-of-the-art distillery.
“You can come to the farm on distilling days, observe us making the lavender essential oil, which ultimately goes into all of our products that we make here on the farm. You can see the whole process from start to finish really from soil all the way to the stills.”
You can hang out with their quirky group of sheep — or even feed them if you’d like! Or visit Charlie, their sheep who is a local celebrity. “A lot of people know Charlie, he’s kind of famous from the farm, and he’s kind of our farm mascot. Charlie’s here all the time — the sheep rotate around the pasture, so when families want to come and see the sheep they absolutely can. They an even feed them if they want.”
You can get an inside look at a day-in-the-life as a lavender farmer with their all-around farm tours. “Doing the farm tours is especially fun because you get an hour from me to learn all of the behind-the-scenes things, and what it takes to run a real working grain farm that is also open to the public with agri-tourism.”
From you-pick lavender to petting sheep, there is no shortage of fun, unique experiences at Brittingham Farms. “We’re so excited to be open to the public and we’re doing some really fun things.”
