(EASTON, Md) – In Talbot County, members of the community, as well as the state of Maryland came together Thursday morning to say thank you to local first responders.

The fifth annual First Responder Celebration is put on by Bluepoint Hospitality owners, Paul and Joanne Prager. It’s their way of saying thanks to the more than 600 people who make up the counties various agencies.

Paul says he’s made it a point to say thanks give back to the countless firefighters, EMTs and law enforcement officers over the years because of all they do in smaller communities.

“When you think about it, small communities have all the same needs that large communities have, and it’s up to the first responders to make everyone feel secure, feel safe, feel that it’s worth investing in their lives here in the community. And these people really need to be appreciated,” says Paul.

The Easton community was also joined by Maryland Governor, Wes Moore whose thanking first responders across the state…

As he puts it, they’re there for us during the worst days of our lives.

Governor Moore tells WMDT, “The best way you are going to recruit is making sure you’re taking care of those who are doing the job right now. And these first responders, they deserve our best. They deserve the right kind of equipment. They deserve deserve the right kind of systems. They deserve the right kind of, you know, the right kind of recruitment so we can get more people to join the ranks.”

Governor Moore says the state support for first response agencies has helped to drive down the violent crime rate in the state of Maryland.
