Two Injured, One in Custody after Stabbing in Berlin

BERLIN, Md. – The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a stabbing that injured two in Berlin on Monday morning.

During the early morning hours of May 11, deputies with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 11900 block of Majestic Prince Lane in Berlin, for a reported stabbing involving two victims. Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Maria Giuffrida of Ocean City. She was taken into custody without incident.

Giuffrida was charged with attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, and two counts counts of first and second degree assault against both victims. She is being held with no bond.

One victim sustained injuries believed to be life-threatening and was transported by Maryland State Police Aviation Command to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. The second victim was transported by emergency medical services to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the MSP and the Ocean City Police Department. The Worcester County Bureau of Investigations responded and has assumed control of the investigation. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.

Authorities say there is no threat to the public at this time, as the incident appears to be isolated.
