RHODESDALE, Md. – The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal responded to a truck fire on Sunday evening after the vehicle caught fire while driving through a field.

Just before 6:00 p.m. on May 10, crews with the Vienna Volunteer Fire Company responded to a field on Maiden Forest Road in Rhodesdale after a driver reported a small fire in the engine compartment of his 2003 Ford F-150 pickup. While driving through a field containing tall, dry vegetation, the driver observed smoke coming from the compartment.

Fifteen firefighters extinguished the fire in 20 minutes. The total damage to the truck is estimated to be valued at $6,ooo.

Fire marshals determined the fire to be accidental in nature as the result of dry vegetation coming into contact with hot engine and exhaust components.
