Local farm celebrates 50th anniversary of ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’

Nothing says fall like heading to a pumpkin patch or watching a classic like “It’s the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown”, this year this iconic TV special is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
One Delaware farm honoring this special is Fifer Orchards.
“Just like anyone else I’ve watched the great pumpkin many times, this time of year, and I think snoopy is probably by favorite character,” says Michael Fennomore, of Fifer Orchards.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the ‘It’s the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ special, he is joining farmers across the country in designing a unique corn maze.
“We thought it was such a great idea to partner with such an iconic opportunity company like the Peanuts, and it’s really been a lot of fun,” says Fennemore.
Fennemore took 47 ABC through the corn maze, which from an aerial view you could tell Charlie Brown is joined by his best friend Snoopy.
“Starting in July we plant the corn about ten days later it emerges. And when the corn is 4 to 6 inches tall we’ll go ahead and cut out the maze…killing the pathways and then rest of the corn grows up and then you have a corn maze,” says Fennemore.
He tell us it’s been a hit among adults, especially children.
“It was really fun when we got into different places we could find that we were in the nose and different places throughout the maze,” says Fennemore.
So much fun, that cheerleaders from Beacon Middle School showed 47 ABC their Charlie Brown cheer.
“When you see those characters, you have fond memories, you have nostalgic memories and that’s a big part of family fun,” says Fennemore.
In case folks haven’t watched ‘It’s the great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ or just want to re-watch it, you can catch it next Wednesday at 8PM here on 47 ABC.
