Sheriff’s Office locates individual after foot pursuit, drone-assisted search

WESTOVER, Md. – The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office successfully located an individual following a foot pursuit and drone-assisted search.

Friday around 10 a.m., deputies responded to a residence in Westover to serve a court-ordered Petition for Emergency Evaluation.

When they arrived, the made contact with the individual named in the petition, who immediately fled into a nearby wooded area.

Deputies created a boundary around the area in an effort to contain the individual and also deployed a drone unit to help with the search.

Using thermal imaging, deputies were able to safely scan the wooded area.

Deputies eventually located the individual and after giving him verbal commands, the individual complied with deputies instructions and exited the wood with hands raised.

Deputies then safely took the individual into protective custody without further incident.

In accordance with the court order, the individual was taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional for evaluation and treatment.
