Milton Rescue Seeks Fosters, Donations After Removing Dozens of Dogs from Poor Conditions
MILTON, Del. – A Milton based animal rescue group is seeking emergency fosters and donations after receiving dozens of dogs from a hoarding case.
Grass Roots Rescue said they jumped into action after a rescue partner reached out for support. On Tuesday, May 5, 37 dogs were rescued from extremely poor conditions. Officials say the dogs were found living in their own waste, suffering from skin conditions and fleas, receiving a lack of veterinary care, and being overly bred.
Additionally, the rescue group says this makes 69 dogs removed from the location in total since last fall, with another 15 to 20 still being held at the premises. Due to a lack of space at the corresponding Animal Control holding area, those dogs can not be removed at this time.
Grass Roots is looking for homes for one adult female dog with a litter of five 2-3-week-old pups, a second small adult female dog with a weaning litter, one mall adult male dog, and 13 puppies ages five to eight weeks. The organization says the youngest puppies should be fostered in pairs.
Potential fosters should live in the Delaware, Salisbury, and Berlin areas, and have an ability and willingness to quarantine from resident pets for approximately two weeks while new animals adjust. Fosters are expected to communicate with Grass Roots weekly and attend monthly events.
“We provide everything—supplies, vet care, support. You provide a safe place, patience, and a second chance,” the rescue group said on social media. If you’d like to apply to foster one of these dogs, or a different pet through the organization, click here.
