Teachers Who Make a Difference: A teacher who cooks up creativity, confidence, and success
LAUREL, Del. — It’s almost May, but this teacher couldn’t wait to make a difference. WMDT spoke with a teacher who is mixing passion with a recipe for success.

Ms. Ayonna Cannon is serving A-plus moments for her students, cooking up creativity, confidence and success. She said the recognition helps highlight her efforts as well as those of her students.
“It honestly feels great. I sometimes feel like I don’t receive it—or my kids don’t receive it—so just letting the kids actually see that I’m giving awards and that everyone can see that my kids are achieving, it feels good. It feels wonderful,” Cannon said.
For her, it’s all about making that connection: knowing each student’s likes and dislikes and what makes learning click.
“We do a lot of cooking in our classroom. Our most recent project was Shamrock Shakes and just being able to see my kids’ passion for it, being able to do it,” Cannon said.
It’s those small moments that add up and make a real difference.
“Letting them know their brains are humongous. They’re able to do whatever they put their minds to and as you can tell, they’ve been doing it—improving their test scores, improving their grades academically, making honor roll. I’m super proud of my babies,” Cannon said.
As Cannon’s sister, Shania Trammell, said, that’s the key to it all.
“I’m grateful that the students have Ayonna, because that means it’s going to rub off on them. They’re going to become the same kind of caring person, and they’ll be able to reciprocate that in all areas of their life,” Trammell said.
Teachers like Cannon are the reason Pam Price and Associates highlights educators on the Shore, Sydney Price said.
“They are so passionate about how they work and the impact they make on their students, so we just love to recognize them for what they do,” Price said.
