Rehoboth Library Needs Community Support as Renovations Continue
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – While the downtown location of the Rehoboth Beach Public Library continues to be renovated, library officials say support from the community is still needed.
The updates, anticipated to be complete later this year, will provide an enhanced, modern space designed to better serve the growing needs of the community. Over 70 percent of the funds necessary for the renovation have been raised through federal and state funding, in addition to an outpouring of community support. However, securing the remaining funding will allow the library to complete the renovation, including the area that is currently being operated out of.
“This renovation represents an investment not just in a building, but in the future of our community,” said Library Board President Kay Wheatley. “We are grateful for the incredible support received so far and welcome others to share the pride we all feel in this project.”
The renovated library will feature improved accessibility, updated technology, flexible gathering spaces, and expanded areas for children, teens, and community programming.
“Libraries are essential to the community,” Library Director Lauren McCauley said in an interview with WMDT. “And we wanna keep the library going, we need those funds to keep going. I mean, this past winter, we had to shut down a couple of times because our heater broke and there wasn’t enough heat for the building. So these kind of renovations are really important because that’s how we keep our doors open.”
