SMYRNA, Del. – The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) says one of their employees escaped serious injury on Monday while mowing grass along Route 1 near Duck Creek.

A southbound driver reportedly left the roadway and struck the tractor the employee was driving, causing extensive damage to both the mower and the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle has been cited by Delaware State Police.

Just last week, DelDOT observed National Work Zone Awareness Week, held each April at the traditional start of construction season, when the number of workers on the nation’s roadways increases. DelDOT reminds drivers to drive attentively, slow down, and move over when possible in work zones.
