Wicomico County residents meet your candidate in the park event

Salisbury, Md. – Wicomico County residents can meet their county council candidates at various parks in the area on Saturday.

Candidates from each of Wicomico County’s seven districts will be available to meet with community members at the “Meet Your Candidate in the Park” event. At the event, county residents can register to vote, find their voting location, learn about the voting process and learn about the initiative to bring “Kids to the Polls.” Faith Over Fear Economic Empowerment Inc. President Angela Morton said the “Kids to the Polls” initiative is meant to give kids the opportunity to learn about the election process.

“This event really gives residents the opportunity to connect with the candidates in their district,” Morton said.

The event is hosted by nonprofit Faith Over Fear Economic Empowerment Inc., with support from the Wicomico County NAACP and the Delta Sigma Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Morton said Saturday’s event is meant to empower residents to get to know their local representatives ahead of Maryland’s primary election this fall.

“It does start locally, you can really get your voice heard and say ‘this is what my needs are,” she said. “Your voice really does matter.”

Morton says those who are unsure which district they fall in can check the free Go Vote Maryland app.

“Voting is everyone’s business as a way to advocate for yourself,” Morton said. “You know, there’s things that they may see that’s affecting them with their business. So we encourage them to know who your local people are — your local politicians are.”
