YMCA of Delaware announces new summer day camp

LEWES, Del – YMCA of Delaware announces their new summer day camp to increase access to childcare for families in Sussex County.

Held at Lewes Elementary school, YMCA Camp Lewes will run from June 21 to August 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, offering age-appropriate activities to encourage healthy play and youth development. A half-day option is offered from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

After a positive response to the YMCA camp Millsboro, the organization is continuing to invest in Sussex County, in order to address what has been called a “childcare desert”, because of the limited access and growing demand for affordable and high-quality childcare options.  This will play a role in supporting working families by allowing parents to stay in the workforce.

“The response to Camp Millsboro made one thing clear: Families in this region need more options,” said LoriKay Paden, Community Vice President & Executive Director of the Sussex Family YMCA. “YMCA Camp Lewes is a direct reflection of that need, and our commitment to ensure every child has a place to learn, grow, and belong during the summer months.”

The camp offers financial assistance through the YMCA’s Open Doors Program.
