Cape & Sussex Central gril’s soccer deadlocked after double overtime

GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Sussex Central Golden Knights welcoming the Cape Vikings in a Henlopen North showdown.

Both teams with similar records in the conference standings. We start later in the first half, a close game throughout, until Sophomore
Maria Chilel-Juarez breaks the deadlock with a strike from a distance. The goal helped the Golden Knights get on the board first.

We go to the 2nd. half now, Ashlynn Panyko threatening on the offense, the Vikings trying to tie the game. She makes a nasty move on the defender and shoots but couldn’t find the net.

Golden Knights hold for now, then a free kick opportunity for Cape hits the top bar, Ava Brown tries to go for the header, she misses, and the Golden Knights holding tight to that lead.

The Vikings just relentless on the pitch, 2 minutes to go in the game, the great corner leads to Ashlynn Panyko hitting the header and scoring this time around. They tie the game with time running out, and the game goes to overtime.

In the first overtime, Chilel-Juarez looking for the net again but a save from goalie Jordan Willey. Then, in the 2nd overtime, the free kick and header shot goes right into the Sussex Central goalie McKaylee Houghton.

Cape looking to make one final push to end the game and get the win, Ava Brown crosses the defender, she makes the cross to Elizabeth Sprague, who gets the shot on goal but Houghton says not today.

The game ends in a tie 1 to 1.
