Chamber Chat: Discussing Maryland’s FY27 Budget

SALISBURY, Md. – In WMDT’s brand new segment, Chamber Chat, WMDT’s John Trout speaks with Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce President Bill Chambers about items of relevance to the local business community.

In this week’s chat, the gentlemen discussed the recently passed FY 2027 Budget for the State of Maryland, expected to be signed by Governor Wes Moore in the coming days.

“The budget is balanced per our State Constitution, and they’re projecting about a $260 million surplus, so let’s hope that hangs on as well,” Chambers said of the new budget.

He went on to remark that affordability has been a large driving force of the Maryland General Assembly’s 2026 Legislative Session. As costs continue to rise in the State, legislators are looking for solutions for struggling families.

“Some of the key areas include housing, childcare, healthcare, and senior care, and of course we can’t forget energy — everyone has seen their electric bills,” Chambers added, acknowledging that current events have also caused prices to rise at grocery stores and at the gas pump.
