North Atlantic Right Whale Spotting Prompts Slow Zone off OC through Apr. 12
OCEAN CITY, Md. – Endangered North Atlantic right whales have been detected east of Ocean City, prompting a Slow Zone to be in effect through Apr. 12.
The Slow Zone was announced by NOAA Fisheries on Saturday, Mar. 28. Mariners are requested to avoid or transit at 10 knots or less inside the area where right whales have been detected to reduce the risk of vessel strikes. Restricted waters are bound by the following coordinates:
- Northern Boundary: 38°34′ N
- Southern Boundary: 38°03′ N
- Eastern Boundary: 74°19′ W
- Western Boundary: 74°58′ W
