Animal Shelters Call on the Community for Help Amid Peak Kitten Season

RIDGELY, Md. — Spring and summer are peak kitten season, and local animal shelters are calling on the community for help.

During kitten season, which lasts from March to October, shelters see an influx of newborn kittens and pregnant cats in need of special care. With the surge of kittens coming in, shelters are in need of extra hands and donations to help care for the animals.

Executive Director of the Caroline County Humane Society Stephanie Flower says now is the perfect time to foster. “Believe it or not, moms and kittens are one of the easiest fosters to do because the mom kind of does all the work for you. We have lots of different opportunities: there’s kittens that are older who just need time to gain weight, there’s bottle baby kittens, which we’d be happy to teach you how to bottle feed a kitten.”

Donating things like towels, blankets, pet food, and more can also help the shelter. For more information on how to donate or get involved, visit www.CarolineHumane.org.
