Dover Shooting Injures One; Two 18-Year-Olds Arrested
DOVER, Del. – The Dover Police Department has arrested two 18-year-olds in connection with a shooting that injured one on Thursday afternoon.
Police have arrested Nasir Gibson of Wilmington and Dimitri Marcelin of Dover on charges of first degree assault, two counts of possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of first degree reckless endangerment, and related charges. Both Gibson and Marcelin were committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $63,800 cash bond.
At 3:41 p.m. on Mar. 26, police responded to the 100 block of Thames Drive in The Village of Westover for multiple reports of shots being fired. As officers arrived they were notified that an 18-year-old male had been struck in the leg. He was transported to Bayhealth Hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening injuries.
Officers continued to search the area and located several shell casings behind one residence, along with two other homes damaged by gunfire. Both homes were occupied when they were struck.
Witnesses on scene aided officers by providing descriptions of the suspects and a direction of travel, advising that they ran eastbound through a wooded path towards Mifflin Road. Assistance from the Delaware State Police K9 Unit was requested to aid in tracking the suspects. The K9 tracked towards the rear of a residence in the 100 Block of Mifflin Road, leading officers to a trash can where two 9mm handguns were located.
The K9 continued to track to the rear of that residence. Officers surveyed the property and located Gibson and Marcelin, matching witness descriptions, in a detached shed in the yard. Both were taken into custody without incident.
Authorities say mugshots of Gibson and Marcelin are not available at this time.
