First day of Spring sees two injury crashes in Laurel and Delmar
LAUREL, Del. — Two separate vehicle crashes in Sussex County left four people injured on the first day of spring, according to fire and emergency officials.
The first crash occurred at approximately 7:24 a.m. Friday, March 20, when the Laurel Fire Department was dispatched to Stage Road for a report of a vehicle accident with injuries. The incident was later upgraded to a rescue response, prompting additional assistance from Station 74.
Units arrived on scene to find all occupants had already exited the vehicle, officials said. Firefighters and rescue crews worked to clear debris from the roadway while emergency medical personnel treated the injured. Two patients were transported by Laurel EMS to a nearby hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available.
Later in the day, at around 3:23 p.m., emergency crews from the Delmar Fire Department responded to a second crash during the afternoon rush hour. The two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of State Street and Woodlawn Avenue and involved a T-bone-style impact.
Responders found two individuals injured at the scene. Both patients were transported by Delmar EMS to a regional trauma center for treatment. No additional details on their conditions were released.
Authorities have not indicated whether any charges are pending in connection with either crash.
