MILLSBORO, Del. – The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company (IRVFC) responded to a crash with entrapment on Friday night.

At 9:04 p.m. on Mar. 13, IRVFC crews and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad were alerted for a single-vehicle accident on Oak Orchard Road in the vicinity of Driftwood Village. Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit.

Upon arrival on the scene, responders were informed of a driver trapped in the involved vehicle, which had crashed into a tree. Crews worked to stabilize the vehicle and prepare the driver for extrication and initial patient assessment. Crews also worked to establish a landing zone for the requested aviation unit, which was ultimately canceled. The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

Officials say it appears a white Ford Fusion was traveling on Oak Orchard Road when it left the roadway for an unknown reason, striking a tree head-on. The Delaware State Police are investigating the accident.
