2015 state report — ows there were more than 15 reports of domestic violence per day in delaware. luckily, there are many resources to help those victims involved. 47 abc’s justina coronel has the story. track 1 domestic violence can happen anywhere, anytime, to anyone. it can affect anyone — regardless of age, sex, ethnicity and economic status. in delaware, law enforcement made 13-thousand criminal arrests for these types of offenses in 2014. that’s nearly 38 a day. luckily, those victims have the proper resources to work with. people’s place in delaware has three programs. we have safe, which is the domestic violence program for provides emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence. then we have abriendo puertas who has another shelter for the spanish speaking communities. and we have turning point which provides counseling services for domestic violence victims. track 2 rosemary martinez is the program director of abriendo puertas — which means opening doors. she says the majority of the victims are women. domestic violence also includes psychological, sexual and economic abuse. martinez explains one of the most rewarding resources they have — to deal with these types of cases. counseling can be very beneficial to victims of domestic violence because it will help them, one understand that the problem is not them. a lot of women have that guilt that they’ve done something wrong and this is why they’re being abused which is not the case. track 3 the domestic violence therapist ann southard has worked with multiple victims for the past six years offering different types of counseling, such as support groups and individual counseling. so when they first come in, they’re a little guarded at times but for a lot of the women that stay with me or continue to come to our support group i hear all the time that it made a huge difference in their life. there is life after abuse. track 4 justina coronel 47 abc. people’s place say if you ever feel you are in danger – call 9-1-1 immediately. their hotline numbers along with maryland’s and virgnia’s hotline numbers are listed on our website that’s 47 abc dot com. cover for cancer is a support
