Delmar Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Attempted Rape, Child Sex Crimes
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – A Delmar man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for various child sex crimes.
On Thursday, Mar. 12, 51-year-old Derrick Henderson was sentenced by Judge Kathleen L. Beckstead Chief Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County for charges of sexual abuse of a minor, second degree attempted rape, fourth degree attempted sexual offense, and sexual solicitation of a minor. The sentencing follows Henderson’s conviction by a jury in Dec. 2025.
If Henderson is released from prison, he will be under lifetime supervision and be required to register as a Tier III sexual offender for life.
In 2024, Henderson sexually abused a minor in his household. At the time, Henderson was on probation for a separate criminal conviction, and had a major prior criminal record. To protect the privacy of the minor victim, details of the offenses have not be made public.
“The survivor in this case displayed immense courage in disclosing the sexual abuse, and in testifying at trial,” said Wicomico County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Dykes. “I hope the Court’s powerful sentence in this case has afforded this survivor some degree of peace.”
