New Advocacy Group Coming to Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. — Local LGBTQ+ advocate Mark DeLancey is spearheading Together We Thrive — a nonprofit group he says represents the next chapter of LGBTQ+ advocacy on the Eastern Shore.

DeLancey’s goal is to set a new standard by integrating mental wellness, self-awareness, activism, and resource sharing into their cause. He is also focused on providing resources for LGBTQ+ youth. “I’d like to be able to provide more services for youth. Whether that’s capabilities to get them off the street [and] stop couch surfing, food vouchers, bus passes, things that we’re able to get to youth. And also counseling sessions for them. . . I want to be able to provide, not just be a phonebook. I want to be able to be an actual practical resource for youth.”

Together We Thrive has a lineup of events planned — including monthly happy hours at Brick Room, Coffee House Sessions, and monthly workshops with a clinician and therapist. “It’s going to be an atmosphere where people can come network with individuals, and if there’s something that they’re going through they can reach out to her [clinician] personally, right there. . . I want to change the narrative, and I see the hope that’s there for people to change their narrative, to stop saying ‘we’re done surviving and we want to thrive.'”

A large community event is in the works for this June. Follow WMDT as we continue to provide updates on Together We Thrive.
