Pedestrian Killed While Trying to Cross N. DuPont Hwy.; Police Investigating

DOVER, Del. – The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian-car crash that occurred early Monday morning.

Police say a pedestrian, identified as 54-year-old Victoria Bynes, was struck while attempting to cross North DuPont Highway shortly after 4:00 a.m. As Bynes was walking westbound across the highway, a Chevrolet Equinox operated by a 29-year-old woman was traveling in the left northbound lane. The Equinox struck Bynes and continued northbound, before returning to the scene shortly after the collision.

Responding officers and emergency medical personnel attempted immediate life saving measures, but Bynes succumbed to her injuries shortly after. Police say she was wearing dark non-reflective clothing at the time she was hit.

The collision remains under active investigation, as police continue to review all available evidence, including witness statements, scene evidence, and any potential video footage related to the incident. No charges have been filed at this time.
