Local leaders celebrate Women’s History Month
SALISBURY, Md. – During Women’s History Month, local leaders are leaving their mark on the community.
Megan Outten has made it her mission to uplift underrepresented populations.
“As a lifelong resident, I have seen a lot of the struggles families go through,” Megan said. “There are definitely women here that experience some barriers with access to care, and we’ve been able to really find some collaborative ways to uplift those women.”
Monica Brooks is a leader who believes that paving the way for future figures is what creates a thriving society.
“Women have always been at the forefront of the fight to help make a difference in our communities. From our aunties and our moms, and to our “play moms” and “like my mom” and foster ones, all of those ones are out in the community making a difference,” Monica said.
During this Women’s History Month, Both Monica and Megan encourage women to strive for whatever big ambitions they have.
“I would love to see our women flourish in entrepreneurship, to have more opportunities to pave their own way and to see more women in leadership throughout our county,” Monica said.
“Women’s History Month, especially following Black History Month, it matters to have representation across the spectrum. At the end, what we want is, we want our leaders to be reflective of the community that we have right here in Wicomico,” Megan added.
