Indian River Vol. Fire Co. Responds to Multiple Downed Trees Following Blizzard

MILLSBORO, Del. – The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded to multiple homes following Sunday’s blizzards after downed trees damaged the residences.

At 6:39 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, crews were alerted for a confined space rescue involving a residential structure collapse in the Shawn’s Hideaway development. It was reported to be a tree fallen on a house with one patient.

Crews from the Sussex County Paramedics, Sussex County Technical Rescue Team, Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, and the Lewes Fire Department also responded to the scene. Upon arrival, responders located a large tree that had fallen on the roof of the residence. The homeowner was reportedly able to coordinate arrangements with a neighbor.

Additionally, at 2:07 p.m. the following day, crews were alerted for a citizen’s assist in the Short Hills development. The caller reported a tree had fallen on their house, creating a large hole in the roof. Utilities on the property were disconnected as an external evaluation was conducted. IRVFC says they also attempted to assist the resident with temporary housing accommodations.
