Paul HagermanLamont Hazzard

MILTON, Md. – The Milton Police Department arrested two men on drug charges following a traffic stop in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police arrested 30-year-old Paul Hagerman and 35-year-old Lamont Hazzard after conducting a traffic stop on their vehicle around 3:00 a.m. on Feb. 22. Hagerman is charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and speeding in excess of posted limits. Hazzard is charged with three counts of possession of a counterfeit substance and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia. Both men were committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute pending arraignment.

Police say they pulled over the car after observing it speeding on Harbeson Road. Hagerman, who was driving the vehicle, reportedly displayed clear signs of drug impairment, and he was asked to step out of the car for Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Hagerman refused to step out of the vehicle, placed the vehicle in drive before briefly fleeing the stop. Hazzard, who was in the passenger seat, jumped out of the moving vehicle, causing Hagerman to stop again.

Officers took both men into custody after a brief struggle with Hagerman. Hazzard was found to be in possession of crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, heroin, and other drug paraphernalia.
