Harrington hosts workshop to kick off Downtown Development District

The city of Harrington might be one step closer to bringing more businesses to their downtown area.

On Monday, the city will host workshop for people interested in investing in this downtown development district. Back in August, Governor Markell announced that Harrington and four other cities in Delaware have been named Downtown  Development Districts. The purpose of this designation is to stimulate job growth and attract new businesses, by providing a variety of incentives to investors.

City officials tell 47 ABC they have been working on revitalizing their downtown since 2005, so they are happy to be moving in the right direction.

“This should be a great place where people come to work, live and play. And they are very excited about it and they understand the benefits of it. They’ve watched what’s happened in Dover, Seaford, and Wilmington and they know that dream can come true for Harrington as well,” says Teresa Tieman, the City Manager for Harrington.

Monday’ workshop will go from 6-8PM at Harrington Fire Company. If folks miss the workshop. the city manager tells 47 ABC they will arrange pre-development meetings with interested individuals to discuss their projects.
