Donate Halloween candy to support our troops

Kool Smiles, in Salisbury, is going on their fifth year doing what they call Operation Troop Treats during Halloween.

Any three to 12-year-old child, who donates 25 pieces of unopened candy, to Kool Smiles, gets a toy in return and the donated candy will be sent in care packages to U.S. military members stationed overseas.

Those service members will get the candy and also dental kits. Kool Smiles dentist Dr. Atkins hopes this program will help kids consume less candy this Halloween.

“We still want to make Halloween fun and kids like prizes they like candy but they also like prizes too, so they’re trading off their candy their supporting our brave young men and women overseas and in essence it’s teaching them how to give and its also promoting healthy teeth because they’re not taking home all that candy,” explains Dr. Atkins.

Last year children and families donated more than three tons of candy for the troops through this program.

This year Operation Troop treats starts on Friday, October 28th and goes until Saturday, November 5th.
