Chocolate Lovers Flock to Chincoteague for 20th Annual “Death by Chocolate” Event
CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND, Va. — Chocolate lovers filled Main Street on Chincoteague Island for the 20th annual “Death by Chocolate” celebration, a two-day event designed to highlight local businesses during the winter season.
Hosted by the Historic Main Street Merchants Association, the free event invited visitors to sample chocolate-themed treats from participating shops while taking part in a scavenger hunt-style competition. Participants collected stamps at each stop for a chance to win prizes, including gift certificates and island experiences.
Organizers said the anniversary event drew strong crowds and showcased the charm of the island’s business community.
“It has a lot of charm,” said Nicole Miller with Historic Main Street Merchants Events. “The businesses that participate fill up fast, and we even have more places on the island doing special things that aren’t on the official list. So many people have a love for the island and its visitors, and that’s what makes the event what it is.”
Merchants said the event not only satisfied sweet cravings but also provided an economic boost during the off-season. Planning is already underway for next year’s 21st annual celebration, with organizers promising even more chocolate and surprises.
