Delmar Man Arrested Following Home-Invasion Burglary

DELMAR, Del. – The Delaware State Police have arrested a man following a home-invasion burglary and assault that occurred in the early hours of Monday morning.

At 2:10 a.m. on Feb. 9, troopers responded to a residence on the 34000 block of Bi-State Boulevard for a report of an assault involving a weapon. Before arrival on the scene, officers were told that a man, later identified as 35-year-old Mario E. Padilla Caballero of Delmar, had forced entry into the house and was still there when the resident, a 40-year-old man, arrived home. The man confronted Padilla Caballero and, during a fight, he was cut by him with a knife, suffering minor injuries. When troopers arrived, Padilla Caballero, who is known by the victim, ran from the residence but was ultimately taken into custody without incident.

Padilla Caballero was arrested and taken to Troop 5, where he was charged with first degree home-invasion burglary, second degree assault, aggravated menacing, and related charges. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $56,201 cash bond.
