Crisfield city council has approved golf cart usage in city streets

In Crisfield, the city council has approved the ordinance which will allow golf carts in city streets.

The golf carts will only be allowed on city streets, excluding the two state highways running through town.

With new pavement in the area for bike lanes, they are advising golf cart riders to let those lanes solely be used for bikes.

We are told the Crisfield police department has already been issuing decals for the golf carts.

City manager, Rick Pollitt says this will be great for tourism, such as those coming to Somers Cove Marina by boat.

He says it will provide visitors the ability to maneuver around the town easier.

Pollitt says these golf carts will have a speed limit of 30 miles per hour and they will have a number of regulations.

Pollitt states, “There are safety features to be followed all golf carts have to have seat belts, windshield wipers, blinkers, break lights, that sort of thing. We do not allow car seats for children. Everybody has to be strapped into a normal seat with a seatbelt.”

Somers Cove Marina told 47 ABC they are expecting 6 new golf car rentals in April. They say they will have stations for those who are purchasing golf carts for storage.

The actual ordinance will go into affect November 9th, 2016.
