State grant helps Lake Forest hire six new teachers
FELTON, Del. – Thanks to a state grant, the Lake Forest School District was able to hire six new teachers at the start of the school year. On Wednesday, 47 ABC got a chance to see how that’s already impacting students.
Delaware’s Opportunity Funding Program helped the district afford six interventionalists. These teachers work in a smaller setting with English learners and low income students. The district’s Superintendent tells 47 ABC they look at data from this type of program every two months and they’re already seeing promising results.
“Thirty minutes a day with groups of three to five students, working on targeted skills, will show great progress and as a district we have been using that method for quite a while. As you look at our data through out the years, you see that they are impressive,” says Lake Forest Superintendent Brenda Wynder.
Wednesday’s school visit is part of Governor John Carney’s Opportunity Funding School Tour. Of course the district hopes the funding continues but they’re already thinking of ways to keep the positions if it stops at some point.
