Voluntary recall of some Oreo products for allergy concerns

A local grocery chain has announced a voluntary recall of some Oreo varieties, due to allergy concerns.
Following a recall by Mondelez Global LLC, Giant Foods says it has pulled certain Oreo Fudge Cremes off the shelves which may contain milk, an allergen that is not listed on the ingredient label. These products are safe to consume for individuals who do not suffer from a milk allergy.
The following product is included in this recall:
- Oreo Fudge Cremes, 11.3 oz, UPC 4400002694 with Best By Dates of 19 AUG 16, 20 AUG 16, 14 SEP 16, 13 OCT 16, 14 OCT 16 and 17 OCT 16
- Oreo Fudge Cremes – Mint, 11.3 oz., UPC 4400002696 with Best By Dates of 20 AUG 16, 21 AUG 16, 14 SEP 16, 15 SEP 16, 16 SEP 16, 17 OCT 16, 18 OCT 16
Giant says they haven’t received any reports of illnesses at this time.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic. Allergic reactions can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.
Customers who have purchased the Oreo products listed above, should throw away any unused portions, and bring their purchase receipt to Giant for a full refund.
