Man arrested after reportedly stealing woman’s ring

Richard Jones, 52, Salisbury

A man was arrested after a reported theft happened in Eden on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, around 1:15 PM on Saturday afternoon, a deputy started an investigation into the theft of jewelry from a home on Harcum Wharf Road in Eden. Officials say that the victim said that she came home and found that a $4,000 ring was missing from the top of her dresser in her bedroom.

Suspicion reportedly focused on 52-year-old Richard Jones who, officials say, was inside of the home, painting, while the homeowner was not there. Officials say the deputy interviewed Jones after finding him in Salisbury where they also obtained a confession from Jones where he reportedly admitted to taking the ring, and selling it at a local pawn shop for $90.

Officials say, Jones was then arrested on charges of theft $1,000 to $10,000, and taken to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner.

After Jones’ first appearance, the Commissioner reportedly detained Jones in the Detention Center on $1,000.00 bond.
