The town of Snow Hill looking to annex property to qualify for extra state funding
SNOW HILL, Md. – A public hearing in Snow Hill regarding annexation. The town wants to acquire a piece of property on Coulbourne Lane, where the town’s water well is located.
The maintenance required to keep the well in upstanding use is costly, and to qualify for state funding, Snow Hill must annex the property within town limits.
Town Manager, Rick Pollitt, calls it a housekeeping measure.
“Annexation law is such that you can only expand from the existing town line. In other words, you can’t just go out and annex a piece of property by itself, it has to be contiguous to the town limits.”
The public hearing commenced at 5:30 PM this evening in the Worcester County Government Building – the town of Snow Hill is also annexing a small sliver of privately owned property.
Those property owners have already signed off on the annexation.
