Milton Woman Arrested for Robbing Dollar General
LEWES, Del. – The Delaware State Police have arrested a Milton woman in connection with a robbery that occurred Tuesday evening.
Around 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 13, troopers responded to the Dollar General located on Savannah Road for the report of a robbery. Upon arrival on the scene, they contacted two store employees, who reported a masked female suspect approached them, implied she had a gun, and demanded money. The suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Shelly Sortino, accessed the register, stole money, and fled in a blue Ford Focus with a Delaware tag.
An hour later, troopers responded to the 14000 block of Staytonville Road in Lincoln for a report of a disabled blue Ford Focus in the roadway. When troopers arrived, they spoke to Sortino, who was driving the vehicle and matched the description of the robbery suspect. A computer check showed that Sortino had an active capias warrant, and the license plate on the Focus was stolen. She was subsequently arrested without incident.
Sortino was taken to Troop 7, where she was charged with first degree robbery and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony. She was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $33,000 secured bond.
