Stephen Decatur Basketball Coach arrested on sexual charges, denied bond

BERLIN, Md. – According to court documents obtained by WMDT, Bryon Johnson, the Stephen Decatur High School Basketball Coach, has been arrested on the following charges:

  • Felony sex offense in the 3rd degree with a child under age 14.
  • Misdemeanor offense for sex offense in the 4th degree, sexual contact.
  • Misdemeanor assault in the 2nd degree.

Johnson was arrested and denied a bond on January 8th.

He will have a preliminary hearing on January 30th, at the Worcester District Court in Snow Hill.

Worcester County Public Schools sent WMDT a statement.

“Cannot comment on personnel matters; however, the school system took all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our students as soon as school system staff was notified of the allegations. WCPS has also made sure that support is available to any student or staff member should they need it through our school counseling office.”
