Kent Island Battles But Falls Just Short In 2A State Title

It was Kent Island dream season, but the final ending will have to wait. The Buccaneers saw their undefeated streak run all the way to the 2A State Title game before eventually coming up just short to Hereford 2-1. The final chapter for this team has yet to be written though, as the Bucs feature a team without a single season and will have the opportunity to write their final chapter next year.

The teams would be in a battle throughout the first half. Hereford would dominate the ball possession, but the goal keeping for Kent Island was outstanding. Hope Wobbe came up with one great save after another. One on ones, crosses, or corners; it didn’t matter as she played the best half of her life, helping guide Kent Island to a 0-0 tie at the break. The offense would eventually break though for Hereford in the second half. On a breakaway up the right side, Kaitlyn Brandt would rip a high arcing shot that went over Wobbe’s shoulder and into the back of the cage. Kent Island would fire right back though. The Bucs would draw a corner, and send the ball to the top of the circle to Abby Carpenter. The Wake Forest commit would dribble into the circle, then send a shot to the far post to tie the game. The match seemed to be in the balance until Hereford got the break they needed. A penalty would give them a man up advantage and they would use it. Great ball movement would find an open Brandt in front of the cage and she would put away the eventual game winner. Kent Island continued to battle, but ran out of time on this season, but still have time left with this team.
