Fiery Crash in Camden-Wyoming Kills One

CAMDEN-WYOMING, Del. – The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal three-vehicle car accident that took place Saturday evening.

At 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 20, police say a Chevrolet Suburban made an attempt to pass a RAM 2500, towing an enclosed utility trailer, while navigating a slight curve on eastbound Westville Road. Simultaneously, a Ford Fusion was traveling westbound on the same road.

When the Suburban made the attempt to pass, it sideswiped the driver’s side of the Ford Fusion. As the Suburban returned to the eastbound lane, its passenger side struck the front driver’s side of the RAM. The Suburban subsequently exited the south edge of the roadway before reentering Westville Road, and then exiting the north edge of the roadway, where it struck a tree and caught fire.

The driver of the Suburban, identified as 84-year-old Joseph Mogle of Camden-Wyoming, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the RAM, a 31-year-old man from Dover, and the driver of the Fusion, a 37-year-old man from Hartly, were not injured during the crash.

An investigation into this crash remains ongoing. Troopers ask anyone who witnessed the crash, has surveillance or dash-camera footage, or has information related to the crash to contact Sergeant J. Jefferson at (302) 365-8484. Information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
