Md. teen arrested for 2019 fatal crash

BROOKLYN, Md. – A Brooklyn teen is behind bars after he hit and killed a 71-year-old woman last July.

18-year-old Dante Kane was arrested during a traffic stop in Howard County on Wednesday and charged with negligent manslaughter by a motor vehicle and causing death by negligent operation of a motor vehicle. He was then turned over to the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, where he was held on a $10,000 bond.

The incident happened at around 6:15 p.m. on July 1, 2019, deputies responded to Oxford Road and Bonfield Avenue to assist with a serious vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. It was learned that 71-year-old Judith Beglin was trying to cross Oxford Road just sound of the intersection of Bonfield Avenue, walking to the Oxford Fire Department to prepare for a Ladies’ Auxiliary Meeting. As she was crossing the road, she was hit by Kane’s vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

After a several months long investigation and gathering roadway evidence as well as surveillance footage from the area, it was determined that at the time of the crash, Kane was driving at a speed three times greater than the posted 25 mph speed limit.
