Delmar Man Convicted of Attempted Rape, Child Sex Crimes
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – A jury has convicted a Delmar man on multiple sex crimes, including two counts of sexual abuse of a minor.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, 51-year-old Derrick Henderson was found guilty following a two-day jury trial in the Wicomico County Circuit Court. He is also convicted on charges of second degree attempted rape, fourth degree attempted sexual offense, and sexual solicitation of a minor.
Henderson’s sentencing has been deferred pending a mandatory pre-sentence investigation and mental health assessment. He will remain in custody pending sentencing.
“The survivor in this case exhibited the utmost courage in disclosing the sexual abuse, and in testifying at trial,” said Wicomico County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Dykes. “I thank law enforcement for their diligent efforts and thorough investigation, which allowed this defendant to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
In 2024, Henderson sexually abused a minor in his household. To protect the privacy of the minor victim, further details of the offense will not be made public.
